Free Advice Surgeries Could Save Councils Millions On Path To Net Zero
Following the coronavirus pandemic, we’re now beginning to see a renewed focus on preventing climate change, as some sectors are performing well despite the challenges.
One core area is electric vehicle usage, something we touched upon in an article on the increasing demand found in EVs recently. Furthermore, the launch of free advice surgeries from UK power networks could see this demand grow further still.
In the areas currently covered there are more than 80,000 EVs, a figure set to rise to 3.6 million by 2030. This may be accelerated as recent efforts have been taken to reach a net zero goal sooner. The rising demand for electric vehicles means that in the same area, there are a total of 4,749 on street EV charging stations.
As a result, and to meet the growing demand of these vehicles, the infrastructure needs to be in place to ensure users can reliably charge – something the free advice surgery aims to help with. Furthermore, it is expected that smarter decisions can be made to ensure that this infrastructure can be rolled out in time to meet the demand.
Experts from the team will help local authorities in meeting these goals by assessing future plans for expanding their charging network, by looking at where current plans for charging points are placed and suggesting more cost effective solutions for doing so. The suggestion is that if a single charge point is planned without a power supply running directly underneath could be moved to a location with the existing infrastructure, local authorities could save up to £20,000 per charge point, with the potential to save millions across an expansive network.
By offering better planning solutions, the goal is to ensure that the charging infrastructure for the growing demand in UK electric vehicle usage is available whilst also ensuring it is done in a smart and cost effective way, which may also urge other energy companies to follow a similar undertaking as the recent race to zero campaign could get many others on board.
